With a desire to keep the character of their 1950s ranch, the homeowners of a residence in the suburbs of Chicago, IL, carefully planned their renovation, including matching the house’s existing stone architecture
The homeowners of a 3,500-square-foot private residence in St. Charles, IL, sought to make some significant changes to the structure of their ranch, while still maintaining its mid-century character. The renovation included the addition of a master suite, as well as a new kitchen with a two-story indoor/outdoor stone wall cutting through the middle of the house.

As the saying goes, “It takes a village.” And that is exactly what was needed to erect this 84,000-square-foot cultural facility, which included a total of 4,406 unique stone panels – 2, 3 and 5cm thick — with heights of 18, 24 and 30 inches.
Designed by SOM Architects of New York and built under the responsibility of Turner Construction Co., the structure features JMS Jura Beige limestone, which blends perfectly with the choice of glass and aluminum.
Located in the heart of the business district in downtown Houston, TX, 609 Main is a 50-story Class A office building that is a 1,150,785-square-foot pre-registered LEED Platinum space, connected to a 633,782-square-foot parking garage.
We have quite a stunning piece of stone architecture on the cover of this issue. Not only are the complex angles and shape of the building unique, but the hues and striations of the stone itself are pretty incredible. The structure is the James Museum in St. Petersburg, FL.
