The 2017 stone education series -organized by MIA+BSI: The Natural Stone Institute and Stone World- made a stop in Memphis, TN, for the first time. The all-day event, which was hosted by Pacific Shore Stones, drew 28 fabricators from 18 different companies.

Natural stone quarrying in southern Found du Lac County, WI, has an extensive history that dates back to the early 1800s. Hamilton Lime & Stone, which was originally incorporated on October 30, 1935, was first owned by a local stone craftsman by the name of Torson Johnson.
Originally based in Phenix, MO, the Phenix Marble Co. first opened in the early 20th century. At the time, it was one of the largest producers of stone and marble in the country, employing 250 workers.
After being shut down in 1937, the Arizona Marble Co. has reopened under new ownership, which has invested in the quarry to expand its selection of product offerings
Currently, the quarry is owned by Matt Klump, who purchased the company in 2002. He had a vision to bring this highly prized material back into the market.
Founded in 1992, Jianming Stone Group has set out on a course to improve its processes for stone production, including becoming "green." The company, located in Xiamen, China, has recently installed a new water filtration system at its plant to help improve operations and the environment.
For the second year, MIA+BSI: The Natural Stone Institute organized a delegation to travel to Xiamen, China to attend the international stone exhibition, as well as participate in a study tour of leading Xiamen stone suppliers
A delegation of 41 members of MIA+BSI: The Natural Stone Institute attended the Xiamen Stone Fair, which was held from March 6 to 9, 2017 in Xiamen, China. This was the second year MIA+BSI participated at the exhibition, and participants were eager to experience the trade show, and Chinese culture.
