The California Stone Summit emphasized the importance of shop safety to a group of fabricators. 

On Thursday, October 9th, MSI will host fabricators for a shop safety workshop -- addressing recent changes in safety regulations regarding silica, as well as protocols for slab handling -- at its facility in San Diego, CA. 

NSI and ISFA released a new medical surveillance guidance document as well as extending collaboration with Yale School of Medicine to further study silica safety best practices.

The Natural Stone Institute is actively working hard to promote compliance with silica safety standards.

The Natural Stone Institute (NSI) presents its new Silica & Slab Safety Certificate in a live training session held on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center during The International Surface Event (TISE).

The threat of silica exposure is not a new story. However, these reports are a strong reminder that stone companies must be diligent about reducing the risks to workers. The Natural Stone Institute recommends the following.

OSHA and NIOSH have identified exposure to silica as a health hazard to workers involved in finishing and installing natural and manufactured stone countertop products, both in fabrication shops and during in-home finishing/installation.
