For Karen Roe, owner of NSM Florida Enterprises (NSMOTIF) in Sanford, FL, it has been a series of stepping stones to achieve the level of success her stone fabrication business has reached today. Through hard work, determination and investment in technology, Roe has taken her company from only fabricating small custom projects to now receiving large commercial jobs.

Recently hosting its 17th edition in Xiamen, China, from March 6 to 9, 2017, the Xiamen Stone Fair fulfilled its show management’s expectations by receiving 150,290 visitors, 29,407 which came from overseas, during the four-day event.

The first two events of the 2017 Stone Industry Education series - organized by the Marble Institute of America+Building Stone Institute (MIA+BSI) and Stone World - kicked off in Phoenix, AZ, on February 15 followed by Houston, TX, on March 9.

As consumers continue to evolve with their wants and needs, so does the material handling industry. From larger countertops to more custom and innovative designs, it is a constant challenge for stone fabricators to keep their products and tools relevant and useful.

Since starting his own company in 2004, Polishchuk wanted to build a business that reflected his passion for granite. A shop that would use the best technology, have a great crew and would allow him to be creative with his projects.

At Ryan Hughes Design/Build in Tampa, FL, they believe “the largest room in every home is not defined by the interior elements,” but rather the land it encompasses.

An extensive group of engineers, consultants and other specialists were assembled to address the complex renovation/restoration needs of the historic Utah State Capitol. The project included very specific base isolation and seismic upgrade to the overall building, including the dome and rotunda.

The program comprised two students from the school visiting three various SFA host companies — each visit lasting a full week, consisting of various time spent in and around the fabrication shop and city.

For a newly constructed home perched on the rolling hills of the small suburb, a local designer was enlisted to create a space that was reminiscent of the country, but also ecologically friendly.
