Mountain Home Celebrates the Luxurious Quality of Natural Stone

Antolini supplied two high-quality materials with its exclusive finishes for a home renovation in Italy's Dolomites

Antolini®, Italy’s storied leader in natural stone, celebrates the expressive power of stone in the meticulous transformation of a historic hay barn beside Villa Sello in Cortina d’Ampezzo – the chic Dolomites getaway. Reassembled beam by beam to preserve its authentic character, the residence reveals how erudite restoration and modern living can harmoniously meet.

In developing the interior design project, the design team – led by architect Ambra Piccin and coordinated by Sabrina Soldà of Sap Management ltd. Procurement – pursued material coherence in every choice, combining hand-worked spruce, aged iron and natural stone throughout the three levels, which covers approximately 2,150 square feet of the residence.

In the living area, large windows frame the Tofana, Becco di Mezzodì, Faloria and Cristallo, all Dolomiti peaks, turning the home into a daily belvedere. Given such a privileged setting, every material choice was made with utmost care and Antolini stone defines the atmosphere: Quarzite Nera quartzite enhances the kitchen countertop and fireplace with its textured front, while the Grey Roots marble in the bathrooms is harmonized with the tones of the local wood.
Natural stone doesn’t merely decorate -- it structures the spatial narrative, notes Sabrina Soldà from Sap Management ltd. Procurement. Every material has a reason and a role.
Stone selection – from Quarzite Nera quartzite to Grey Roots marble – took place directly at Antolini headquarters in Verona, Italy, where slabs and samples were compared with the home’s timber finishes to achieve visual continuity. Veined marbles in the bathrooms echo the wood’s warmth for seamless transitions, while the living area features deeply textured stonework that grounds the hearth and social spaces.

Quarzite Nera – Exclusive Collection

A striking black quartzite animated by subtle white shadings, Quarzite Nera suits both bold contemporary statements and refined timeless interiors. In the Cortina project, it was selected in two variants: with a Lether finish for the kitchen countertop and a bathroom, and a Hard Rock finish – part of the Textures+ Collection – for the fireplace front. More broadly, this natural stone can serve as a standalone centerpiece – whether for kitchen islands, feature fireplaces or statement walls – or be paired with wood and metal to bring elegance and visual harmony throughout. Physical, stylish and inherently expressive, Quarzite Nera captures attention while blending seamlessly with the surrounding finishes.

Grey Roots – Natural Stone Collection

Part of Antolini’s Natural Stone Collection, Grey Roots marble embodies the timeless appeal of genuine stone. Selected and processed with advanced craftsmanship, it brings refined character to interiors – from serene bathrooms to living areas – through balanced tonality and nuanced veining. In this project, it was chosen with a Lether finish for the bathroom walls, and with a Hydro finish – part of the Textures+ Collection – for the shower tray. Its composed elegance makes it ideal wherever designers seek quiet luxury and layered materiality.

From designer Sabrina Soldà, some details about the process: Selecting the stone was a key moment, which I personally oversaw at Antolini. I spent an entire day among slabs and samples, bringing the actual wood finishes with me. I wasn’t looking for a perfect color match, but for the visual continuity that makes rooms feel calm and cohesive. In the bathrooms, we chose marbles with veining tuned to the wood’s tones – so transitions feel natural, with no harsh breaks. In the living area, we used Quarzite Nera quartzite for the kitchen countertop and, above all, the fireplace, with a textured treatment on the firebox front to deepen its presence. Bringing large slabs into an attic with pitched ceilings was both a logistical and technical challenge; precise surveying, installation and finishing were crucial.
The entire process was made remarkably smooth thanks to the close collaboration among all parties involved, with natural stone contractor Marble & Granite Service – a Verona-based company specializing in the sourcing and custom processing of natural stone – standing out for its active role in fostering continuous dialogue between the designers and Antolini throughout every stage of the project.

This shared design sensibility finds its fullest expression in the architectural vision developed by Ambra Piccin from Cortina d’Ampezzo: One of the standout features of this residence is its breathtaking view of the most beautiful peaks of the Dolomite range and the Ampezzo basin. The connection with the surrounding environment is truly remarkable, residents of this alpine home can fully experience it through the panoramic views on all sides. It’s a house that welcomes natural light and the atmosphere of the outdoors. Moreover, a key aspect of this project is the use of fine natural stone from the Antolini collection in Verona. The selection of each slab was the result of a close collaboration between the homeowners and the design team, united by their shared passion for beauty and craftsmanship.
