As his presidential term with the Natural Stone Institute (NSI) draws to a close, Evan Cohen of Quality Marble & Granite in Ontario, Canada, and immediate past president of NSI, said his nearly seven years on the association's board have given him a deeper appreciation for the association's role in the stone industry. Cohen described his tenure as transformative -- both for himself and the organization.
The Natural Stone Institute (NSI) recognized Richard “Rick” Atkinson of Stony Creek Quarry in Branford, CT, as the recipient of the 2025 Thor Lundh Quarrier Award. The honor was presented during the NSI Study Tour in Georgia, recognizing Atkinson’s outstanding leadership and lifelong commitment to advancing the natural stone quarrying industry.
This week, Natural Stone Institute (NSI) members are celebrating innovation in quarrying at the Study Tour in Georgia with the presentation of the Thor Lundh Quarrier Award. Established in 2024, the award recognizes a NSI member who has made an extraordinary contribution to quarrying natural stone.
The Natural Stone Institute (NSI) will have a new booth location at Marmomac this year. The international stone exhibition, held annually in Verona, Italy, is scheduled for September 22 to 26, 2025. NSI will be based at Booth G7, between Galleria 2 and 3 on the fairgrounds.
Women in Stone (WIS) will hold a “Block Talk,” on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 from 2 to 3 p.m. The topic will be “Back to School, Back on Track.” Prior to each virtual chat, a set of articles and discussion questions related to the featured topic will be emailed to participants to help set the stage. WIS wants to hear from you, so come prepared for a lively conversation among your peers.
The Natural Stone Foundation formally recognized its 2025 Board of Directors, whose leadership has been guiding the Foundation’s initiatives this year with dedication and vision. This recognition serves as a moment to honor the strength of the current Board and their commitment to stewarding donor resources for the benefit of the natural stone industry.
The stone industry went all in this past November, raising $40,000 during the inaugural “All In for Natural Stone” virtual poker tournament, a fundraising event benefiting the Natural Stone Foundation and the Gary Sinise Foundation.
