A Legacy of Innovation: Nicolai Diamant Meets the Needs of Fabricators

Founded in 1972 by Egidio Nicolai, Nicolai Diamant has been at the forefront of diamond tool innovation – serving the evolving needs of stone fabricators worldwide for generations. Based in Massa-Carrara, Italy -- an area steeped in the tradition of marble quarrying -- the company has grown from a local manufacturer into an international leader known for precision, performance, and forward-thinking solutions.
With roots in one of the world’s most iconic marble regions, the company had direct access to both natural stone materials and a community of skilled craftsmen and fabricators. Since its conception, Nicolai Diamant focused its efforts on manufacturing diamond tools that could satisfy the rigorous demands of marble and granite processing.
As technology advanced and the industry began to embrace automation, Nicolai Diamant invested in research and development which led to the design and manufacturing of diamond tools compatible with the latest CNC machinery. The company’s innovative solutions for profiling, edging, cutting, and polishing assisted stone fabricators increase precision, efficiency, and quality in the production process.
Today, Nicolai manufactures a full range of CNC diamond tools, including routers, core bits, edge polishers, and abrasives that are designed to work on both natural stone and alternative material surfaces.
In 2009, Nicolai North America was established in Grand Rapids, MI, to better serve the North American market. With a presence in the U.S., the company offers increased technical support and customer service. Additionally, Nicolai operates through a network of distributors and service centers across Europe, North and South America, Asia, and the Middle East.
Fabricators on the SFA’s Italy Tour this spring thoroughly enjoyed their time with the Nicolai team. Besides being treated to an incredible dinner at Il Porticciolo @Club Nautico, the group spent considerable time at the company’s facility – learning more about its philosophy, development, and manufacturing processes, and watching some of the tools being fabricated.
