The 2019 edition of the Vitoria Stone Fair/Marmomac Latin America brought together more than 15,000 visitors and 300 exhibitors from around the world to promote the overall industry and the products that it offers.
While working for another company primarily doing tilework, Kurt Bartzsch was given the challenge to start the company’s fabrication shop. Bartzsch primarily learned on a trial-and-error basis before going out on his own.
As a way to give back to his high school, as well as promote the stone fabrication profession, Buddy Ontra of Ontra Stone Concepts taught a week-long class on how to work with stone to students of the Berkshire School in Sheffield, MA
The Berkshire School is a co-ed boarding and day college preparatory school for students in grades nine to 12 and post-graduates. The 400-acre campus is tucked away at the heart of the Berkshire Hills —stationed at the base of Mount Everett in Sheffield, MA.
At this year’s The International Surface Event (TISE), scheduled for January 23 to 25, 2019 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV, the Marmomac International Pavilion will host leading stone and machinery suppliers from India, Italy, Portugal and Turkey.
If the crowds in the aisles at Marmomac 2018 are an indicator of the state of the stone industry, it appears things are on the upswing. Throughout the four-day event, the halls on the fairgrounds of VeronaFiere in Verona, Italy, were filled with 68,000 stone industry professionals.

Designed to safely store cutoffs and remnants, the Stacking Box is constructed of heavy gauge square tubular steel with a hot dip galvanized finish for years of service. Up to three units can be stacked to store more items in a small footprint.
At the end of August, I traveled up to Portland, ME, to attend a Digital Expo, which was hosted by Park Industries. As with all industry events I cover, I walked away learning something new and meeting new people.
As September rolls around, it’s time for many of us to get back to a routine. School is back in full swing. And in the stone industry, our schedules usually fill up a little more in the fall with what we often like to refer to as “trade show season.”
