This year, Stone World celebrates its 35th anniversary. And while the magazine itself has evolved through the decades, the stone industry at large has also experienced change and growth, as well as some hardships over time.

Located in Chilton, WI, Francis and Alyce Buechel literally bet the farm to start their stone business, Buechel Stone Corp. According to Mike Buechel, the COO of Buechel Stone, his grandfather first started cutting stone with a dry saw, eventually affecting his health. “

Founded in 1998, Majestic Stone had a solid reputation – shipping products everywhere from southern California to New York – but on a small scale. But after struggling through the recession, the owners sought to sell it to someone that could invest in its potential and turn it around.

Despite its conception during the financial crisis, Premier Granite & Stone (PGS) was built on a solid foundation that grew it into the successful business it is more than a decade later. The Grandville, MI-based company officially started its granite, quartz and solid surface business as of March 2008.
