Producing sandstone from a 19th Century quarry

In 2006, after a five-year partnership with another stone company, William Scott Elliott split off to begin Capstone Rock Products LLC of Marietta, OH, an offshoot of his third-generation family-owned-and-operated industrial manufacturing business. Indian sandstone reflects desert environment

The colors and materials used for the design of the new Phoenix Convention Center are intended to reflect the state of Arizona. As a facility that is host to thousands of visitors each year, it was important to the city of Phoenix that its architecture be warm and welcoming. To achieve this effect, an extensive amount of Indian sandstone - quarried and fabricated by Tab India of Jaipur, India, and supplied through the company’s U.S. office, Amsum & Ash of Minneapolis, MN - was used to build the exterior facade.

Stonetech 2007 Beijing continues to grow

China’s largest annual stone exhibition, Stonetech, was held at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing from March 4 to 7. Stonetech’s location alternates each year between Beijing and Shanghai, and this year’s event drew a solid crowd, especially considering the timing of the event, taking place immediately prior to the Xiamen Stone Fair. The number of exhibitors at this year’s event was higher than the last Stonetech held in Beijing, which necessitated the addition of one new pavilion that was mainly added to accommodate Chinese equipment manufacturers.

StonExpo East takes place in Atlanta

The first edition of StonExpo East took place at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, GA, from March 22 to 24. Sandstone integrates library to landscape

The 25,000-square-foot Civic Center in Westlake Village, CA, consists of an 11,000-square-foot city hall, a 10,000-square-foot library and a 1,500-square-foot community meeting room. Designed by the local firm of Gonzalez Goodale Architects as a “contemporary hacienda,” the facility’s architecture merges with the area’s dramatic topography. While the building features a variety of materials, including wood and plaster, the library in particular features Mexican sandstone from Southland Stone USA, Inc. of North Hollywood, CA.

Reviving an Historic Mosaic Foundry

The original Orsoni foundry was established in the neighborhood of Cannaregio in Venice, Italy, in 1888. Housed in a structure comprised of brick and stone, the company is still in operation today, and an array of mosaic glass products are still hand produced at the factory on a daily basis.

Casa Décor Opens Miami Showhouse

Casa Décor, an international producer of interior design exhibitions, hosted an event that saw more than 40,000 people visit its U.S. showhouse at the historic Miami Woman’s Club in Miami, FL, from November 10 to December 17, 2006. The six-week transformation of the space included the creation of over 60 interior and exterior tile installations, conceived by some of the world’s most renowned designers.
