CMS Integrates AI Technology to Assist Fabricators with Machine Maintenance

CMS North America is implementing artificial intelligence (AI) across its stone machinery lineup to help fabricators monitor equipment performance and anticipate maintenance needs before breakdowns occur. Alex Bores, western sales area manager for CMS North America, said the company is combining AI with proprietary algorithms to collect machine data from customers worldwide, with their permission, to provide proactive support.
"AI is a necessity, not a trend," said Bores. "We are taking our customers from around the world, and that's in all industries, with their permission, collecting certain machine data so that way we are more proactive on their machines."
The system monitors sensors, spindle times and tool vibrations, allowing fabricators to know what their equipment is doing and when potential issues may arise. "When it comes down to when that machine breaks down, it's important for that customer to already know," said Bores. "When they're not waiting for it to break down, they know when it's going to break down."
The technology feeds into CMS's control room, which compiles data and makes it accessible through a single application. Fabricators can monitor machine performance, submit service tickets and connect directly with service representatives through video.
CMS North America employs 26 service technicians, with the longest-tenured employee having 30 years of experience and the shortest having 15 years. The technicians work across multiple industries -- from aerospace to stone fabrication.
Bores said the AI capabilities are already being implemented on new CMS machines and are designed to scale with fabricators as they grow. Machines on the same platform communicate with each other, eliminating the need to work across different systems.
"Our focus, honestly, is helping the small guy grow," said Bores. "You just don't start out as a large-scale company. It's something you have to grow into."
CMS will showcase its technology at The International Surface Event (tise) at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV, from January 27 to 29, 2026. The machine manufacturer plans to display its Brembana Kosmos bridge saw and demonstrate its Smart Saw software and control room capabilities at the show.
"The small guy that isn't even using AI, whether for their front end of the business or in the back end; they're able to see what we're able to implement all the way around for them," said Bores.
CMS is a global technology manufacturer with operations in stone, glass, aerospace, composites and advanced manufacturing. The company designs and builds fully integrated machinery, including saws, routers, waterjets and sawjets, along with proprietary software.
"That's an important distinction for us; we're not assembling systems from third parties," he said. "We engineer them from end to end."
