ACMC Membership & Committee Participation

ACMC participation is defined as, Countertop Manufacturers – Businesses that provide fabrication services for any material used in countertops, including but not limited to: natural stone (granite, marble, quartzite, soapstone, slate, limestone/travertine), engineered stone (quartz, terrazzo, solid surface, recycled glass composites), porcelain slabs, wood (butcher block, bamboo), metal (stainless steel, copper, zinc), concrete, laminate, recycled and sustainable materials (paper composite, reclaimed wood, recycled plastics), and other emerging materials.

First Issue Call to Action: Industry Feedback Requested

ACMC is now formally accepting feedback on its first submitted issue. If you are a countertop and surface fabricator, as defined by ACMC, your input is requested and encouraged.

H.R. 5437, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Stone Slab Products Act
 
The first ACMC issue is informed by recent federal legislative activity, including testimony and discussion surrounding H.R. 5437. H.R. 5437, clarifies that manufacturers and sellers of stone slab products cannot be held liable for injuries caused by silica exposure that occur during fabrication activities they do not control. The bill recognizes that stone slabs are not inherently dangerous as sold, and that workplace safety during cutting, grinding, and polishing is already governed by federal and state regulations enforced at the fabrication level. By prohibiting civil actions against manufacturers and sellers for fabrication-related injuries, the legislation preserves access to lawful products, prevents misuse of the court system, and reinforces that accountability for worker safety must remain with the employers and workplaces where fabrication occurs. ACMC was created to ensure the industry can respond to these moments with one coordinated voice, backed by documented process and participation.
