From the Editor: CSTD Winter has Tile Product Showcase, Latest Trends

By Jason Kamery
CSTD From the editor
January 17, 2019

We at Contemporary Stone & Tile Designare excited for the New Year once again. Not only does it give the magazine an opportunity to plan out what it will be like for the next 12 months, but also reflect on the previous year. We get excited about the different trends that we have seen take place over the past twelve months, as well as looking forward to what will be coming. That’s why we are kicking off this issue of CSTDwith a New Tile Product Showcase starting on page 8. These are all tile collections that have been recently introduced into the market and what we expect to be seeing a lot more of in the coming months.

Going along with trends, we have an in-depth kitchen and bath feature that starts on page 26. It shares thoughts from several leading professionals in the design community and tile industry about their expectations and observations for the coming year’s trends. We spoke to companies such as Lunada Bay Tile, Tampa Tile, Island Stone and many others.

Besides kitchen and bath design, we also take a look at hospitality design in this issue, focusing on a Kimpton Hotel bar in Boston, MA. The Better Sorts Social Club is the new trendy cocktail lounge at the Kimpton Nine Zero hotel, featuring a design with Nero Maquina marble. To learn more about it, check it out on page 14. On page 18, we wrote an article that addresses the challenges with a swimming pool renovation at the Watergate Hotel, yes, that Watergate Hotel. We were able to get the tile installer’s perspective of how he was able to achieve the look and feel the architects wanted for the project.

For our Q&A this month, we spoke with Stephen B. Jacobs, of New York, NY. He discussed a bit about himself, how he got into architecture and how his firm uses tile and stone in its designs. To learn more about him and his firm, turn to page 22.

Finally, on page 34, we cover a project that took place at The Shops at South Town in Sandy, UT, that did all the work at night, while creating zero dust so the mall could still be used during the day.

We are excited for this year and if you ever have a project you want us to cover, or if you want to discuss different trends you are seeing in the industry, make sure to send me an email at kameryj@bnpmedia.com. From all of us at CSTD,we would like to wish you and your companies the best of luck for the 2019 year.
