Coldspring receives 2014 Tucker Design Awards
The 2014 Tucker Design Awards were presented on June 25 at Frank Lloyd Wright's Unity Temple in Oak Park, IL. Sponsored by the Building Stone Institute, the Tucker Design Awards honor those who have achieved excellence in design through the incorporation and use of natural stone in their building or landscape project. Tucker Awards are presented biannually.
"The Tucker Awards are well-known for their commitment to excellence in the industry, and Coldspring is honored to be recognized for their contribution to the Lakewood Cemetery Garden mausoleum and the Schermerhorn Symphony Center," said Kathy Spanier, Director of Marketing at Coldspring.
Featuring contemporary design and natural lighting throughout, the Lakewood Cemetery Garden Mausoleum is a 24,500-square-foot, two-level design that includes six crypt rooms, six columbaria rooms, three family crypt rooms, a committal room and support spaces. Two granites, Academy Black and Charcoal Blackgranite, were selected for the rough split-face veneer.
To represent the imperfection of life, a coarse-textured exterior finish was preferred for the structure's granite facing. The area is complemented by granite benches, a pool and paved walkways in Coldspring's subdued Diamond Pink granite, invoking a sense of peaceful paths and quiet resting places leading to the mausoleum.
The neoclassical design of the 192,000-square-foot Schermerhorn Symphony Center provides an impressive new home for the Nashville Symphony. The 1,900-seat concert hall features limestone and marble, accented by granite and wood. Coldspring provided Carnelian for the base of the building.
