New Equipment: Marmo Meccanica USA

October 1, 2004

Marmo Meccanica USA recently announced availability of the LTT 621, a horizontal, compact, straight belt continuous processing polishing machine for round and flat edges up to 6 cm (2.36 inches) thick. At 3,704 mm (12.15 feet) long x 1,408 mm (4.6 feet) wide, its small footprint, combined with its high reliability and low cost, makes it ideal for granite shops in North America who want high-quality processing of marble and granite, according to Marmo Meccanica.

The LTT 621 is controlled by a programmable controller, which makes operation user-friendly. The operator inputs the radius of the work piece, and a beam automatically finds the centerpoint where polishing should begin. Work piece minimum length is 270 mm (10.6 inches) and minimum width is 200 mm (7.87 inches). Work pieces travel on a conveyor belt at 45 to 60 feet per hour for efficient processing.

The LTT 621 offers many features, including a calibration mandrel to gauge thickness at an adjustable depth (maximum 6 cm). The mandrel can be adjusted both horizontally and vertically. It can rotate 0 to 90 degrees, and can be used to carry out slotting for the drip stone. Motor power is 3.6 KW (5 HP); rotation speed is 1,400 RPM.

Also included are six oscillating mandrels for shaping, grinding and polishing. The first two mandrels are ready to be equipped with cup-shaped diamond grinding wheels to carry out the shaping of the rounded profiles or the grinding of the flat, squared-off or inclined profiles. The other four mandrels are equipped with polishing and smoothing abrasive grinding wheels. If required, all six mandrels can be equipped with abrasive grinding wheels. Total power (six mandrels): 9 KW; rotation speed is 900 to 2,400 RPM.

Two opposing mandrels are inclined at 45 degrees to cut chamfers and/or bevels of various dimensions. When it is necessary to carry out rounded profile edges, these mandrels help the shaping made by the oscillating mandrels to desired edge shape. Total power (two mandrels): 3 KW (2 x 2 HP); rotation speed is 2,800 RPM.

Other features include a conveyor belt speed adjustable by control panel; motorized pressing arm; extractable supporting bar for large pieces allowing narrow strips to be processed; hydraulic oscillating mandrel motors; electrical box and hydraulic unit placed outside the machine; and drainage point (water doesn't fall down to the machine).

The LTT 621 is sold and serviced by Marmo Meccanica USA, the North American distributor of Marmo Meccanica S.p.A. machinery and equipment.
