For a large bar/coffee house in Genk, Belgium, the designers specified large-format tiles from Spain to help create a warm, comfortable environment.

Duke University's recently completed 1,900-car parking garage has become the first freestanding parking structure in the U.S. to achieve LEED certification. Bill Browne, FAIA, LEED AP, Principal and President of RATIO Architects Inc. in Indianapolis, IN, led the architectural team, and Todd Lohman of Walker Parkign Consultants, Inc. led the overall project team.

Born in the Dominican Republic, Rafael Alvarez is an accomplished architect, graphic designer and painter whose work can be found around the world. A visual arts graduate from the School of Arts Apec (EDA) and Architecture at the Universidad Nacional Pedro Henriquez Urena (UNPHU), he was an Artist in Residence, Art and Design Director and instructor for the Foundation Altos de Chavon - an affiliate of Parson’s School of Design in New York City.

Set in the heart of Seattle’s Pioneer Square - one of the most historic tourist districts in America - the Alaska Building, which is now a division of Courtyard by the Marriott Brand, recently went through an interior reconstruction and renovation.

Bass Studio Architects, based in Columbus, OH, selected the Black Gold Blend from the Tivoli series by Hakatai for the new Thaijindesu Thai and Sushi Bar, a contemporary fusion-style restaurant in beachside Newport News, VA. The iridescent glass mosaic tile, which is produced with recycled content, was employed for the face of an enclosed half-circle bar and two hosting stations in the lounge as well as an island-style service station in the main dining room.

With the objective of creating an upscale resort that reflects its natural surroundings, The Allison Inn & Spa in Newberg, OR, is an   extensive showcase of stone throughout its exterior and interior designs.

Built with indigenous travertine, the Museo dell’Ara Pacis in Rome, Italy, was recently honored with a Marble Architectural Award for its outstanding use of natural stone.

The recent construction of W Hotel’s Miami, FL, location called for abundant amount of stone to maintain the hotel’s stylish reputation.

Designed by Foster +Partners, the new Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House in Dallas, TX, gives the city a landmark venue for the Dallas Opera as well as range of other cultural programs.
