Marmomac Reflects on 60 Years with Regional Stone Tour

The day began in the heart of the Prun Quarries, in Verona, Italy. Accompanied by a geologist, the journalists walked through rock-cut tunnels and quarry faces that tell a millennia-old relationship between people, material and landscape. Inside the quarries, the press conference presenting Marmomac 2026 was held, offering an opportunity to share the vision for the 60th edition and preview its main features. Among the innovations presented were the new identity of Hall 10 with THE BEDROCK – Leading the Future of Natural Stone, the new curatorial path featuring two new curatorial figures, Joseph Grima and Davide Fabio Colaci; and the Marmomac & The City projects, developed in collaboration with White Carrara, which will bring installations and interventions to Verona’s historic city center. Also presented were the Best Communicator Award and the new International “Sustainable Excellence” Award, dedicated to technological innovations capable of improving the sustainability of the stone supply chain, along with the Marmomac Academy program, an international platform dedicated to education and dialogue between industry, architecture and design. Following the conference, the tour continued with lunch at Villa Salvaterra, a historic late-16th-century residence surrounded by vineyards, cypress trees and the hills of Valpolicella: a moment of encounter and exchange between the press and the local region. In the afternoon, journalists visited several companies in the Verona area where they visited the spaces where stone is cut, processed and transformed through advanced technologies, material research and new design applications. The day concluded with a dinner at Villa Della Torre, a Renaissance villa nestled in the Valpolicella landscape, together with local companies: an evening of networking and relationships that brought together the Marmomac community in one of the most iconic settings of Valpolicella. |
