OMAX to Inspire Next Generation at the IMTS Smartforce Student Summit

omax
July 10, 2018

OMAX Corp. will be a proud participant in the Smartforce Student Summit at the International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS) 2018. Using the new ProtoMAX abrasive waterjet as a teaching tool for the next generation of manufacturers, OMAX will present a program of design, machinery, and innovation as students and teachers explore the advancements of abrasive waterjet technology. The summit will be held at McCormick Place, North Building, Level 1, Hall C. OMAX will be stationed at booth 215115.

OMAX will have software engineers at the summit to guide students through a preliminary primer of Intelli-MAX Proto LAYOUT, a CAD program designed for the ProtoMAX. The OMAX software engineers will then show how the process goes from a designed piece in LAYOUT to a cut piece on the ProtoMAX. The presentation will conclude in a cutting demonstration of a pre-designed piece.

ProtoMAX is an excellent user-friendly machine to build a curriculum around advanced manufacturing technology. Compact, safe, and easy-to-use, the ProtoMAX is a perfect teaching tool. Several universities have elected to add ProtoMAX to their engineering, material sciences, robotics, and arts programs allowing students to experience hands-on innovative technology. With the clamshell cover and submerged cutting, ProtoMAX is a safe and quiet (approx. 76 db) iteration of a light industrial machine.

OMAX engineering in a space friendly package, the new ProtoMAX delivers 30,000 psi cutting power with a 5 hp pump. Metal, glass, plastic and wood, the ProtoMAX cuts virtually any material under 1 in. thick with a 12 in. by 12 in. cutting area. The system utilizes a 230-240 V-AC, single phase, dryer-style outlet and does not require any hardwiring. The pump and cutting table are on casters for easy relocation. Work material is submerged under water for clean, quiet cutting that won’t disrupt a shared work space. The ProtoMAX cuts with no heat-affected zone and no change to the material properties.Bottom of Form

Smartforce Student Summit is a program at IMTS designed for student and educators to explore careers in the manufacturing technology industry. In partnership with leading education institutions and advanced technology companies the summit showcases hands-on experiences and learning labs.
