LOS ANGELES, CA--Dan Brunn Architecture and BONE Structure will demonstrate the future of home building and design at the upcoming Dwell on Design, April 5 to 7, 2018. Exemplifying the architect’s minimalist aesthetic and dynamic spatial choreography of light and volume, Bridge House is conceived as a laboratory for contemporary building and living. The 2018 Dwell House, currently under construction, will be at booth #724 in the form of a handcrafted 17.5‐foot‐long, 102,439‐piece LEGO® model made by Cornerstone Brick Designs. A crowd‐funding campaign has been launched at https://www.indiegogo.com/ with perks including tours of the finished house and a LEGO home portrait.

The house—a partnership with Dwell magazine and several product manufacturers—will act as a venue for social and educational events once completed in summer 2018. The 4,500‐square‐foot, netzero energy house literally bridges over a natural stream in Los Angeles’s Hancock Park neighborhood and exists in harmony with the natural environment. The 212‐foot‐long, 20‐foot‐wide, single‐story, cedar‐clad structure mediates a dramatic grade change of 20 feet with a running brook extending below the center of the house. The home is being built with BONE Structure’s modular, prefabricated steel construction system based on a 5‐foot‐by‐5‐foot, post‐and‐beam grid to expedite on‐site assembly, save costs and offer ecological benefits.

Centrally located on the Dwell on Design exhibit floor, the 20-x-30-foot Bridge House booth will be constructed using the same steel construction framework as Bridge House to demonstrate the efficiency of this building technology. The monumental LEGO model replicates the architecture and interiors of Bridge House—from its panoramic windows to rooftop solar panels to interior furnishings. The model will sit on a custom‐designed base to emulate the brook flowing underneath the house. Booth visitors will have an opportunity to enter to win miniature LEGO Bridge Houses several times during the show.

Dan Brunn, AIA, principal of Dan Brunn Architecture, will talk about the innovative design behind Bridge House in two panel discussions during Dwell on Design: “Made in the City: Digital Manufacturing in L.A.” on Thursday, April 5th, from 10:30 am to 11:30 am; “Designing the New Dwell Home” on Saturday, April 7th, from 1:15pm to 2:15pm. Brunn, BONE Structure’s CEO Marc Bovet, Cornerstone artists Bruce B. Heller and Aaron Newman and MODAA Construction’s Rosie Abramyan will be on hand at the booth to answer questions.
