San Diego-based Eldorado Stone hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for its state-of-the-art manufacturing and distribution facility in Greencastle, Pa. The 432,000-square-foot facility will consolidate activities from two pre-existing locations—an aging manufacturing facility near Greencastle and a distribution facility in Hagerstown, Md.—into one central hub for the region. The facility will incorporate a new system designed to improve productivity and reduce waste materials by repurposing wastewater and other wet waste.
“By consolidating operations into a single facility and upgrading equipment, our team will be able to increase capacity by 25-30% while ultimately spending less on operational logistics,” said Ramsay Hawfield, vice president of marketing and product development at Eldorado Stone. “This increase will translate directly into enhanced service opportunities for Eldorado Stone customers all along the East Coast.”
Following a groundbreaking ceremony in December 2016, Eldorado Stone partnered with property owner Atapco Properties and builder Conewago Enterprises to develop the 25.4-acre property located in the Antrim Commons Business Park. The company holds a 15-year lease on the facility and has planned to invest approximately $7 million in equipment and machinery. This includes a new waste repurposing system that will help workers control and manage wastewater and other wet waste materials to reduce the amount of discarded waste by as much as 50%.
“In addition to the technological improvements, we’re excited about the impact this facility will have on our employees’ lives,” said Frank Guthrie, plant manager. “We have more space for operations, more lighting, vastly improved air circulation, and a range of comfort features that will provide our team with a safe and enjoyable work environment.”
