Marmo+Mac & the City 2016

Gothic Heart
Designer: Iosis Iosifidis, dolphins // communication design
Stone Supplier: Stone Group International
Stone: Titanium Black
Description: Combining a material with an immortal heart such as marble with the immortal love story of Romeo and Juliet — exploring the nature of love through a natural material quarried from the heart of the Earth.

Sospensione 2.0
Designer: Tiziano Gozzani for Studio Corsanini
Stone Supplier: National Women of Marble Association
Material: marble, plexiglass
Description: Marble is nature, a block, processing and dust ...yet it can equally be a bulky waste material. This work seeks to restore dignity to this noble stone by using by now inert slabs that, supported by a steel/plexiglass frame, narrate quarrying from the mountainside, processing and the subsequent attempt to merge these materials.

Scrigno
Designer: Leonardo Fatuzzo, Giorgia Laiti, Marco Marogna
Stone Supplier: Lessinia Stone Consortium
Stone: Lessinia Stone
Description: The Lessinia mountain area is interpreted as a casket that can be simultaneously opened and closed thanks to a modular system of inter-locking elements. The jewel inside is the landscape and all its natural features. The exterior is a stone material telling the story of a territory.

4 U (for you)
Designer: Giuseppe Venuta, GA-Design.it
Stone Supplier: Franchi Umberto Marmi
Stone: Gioia marble
Description: A petal made from Gioia marble that opens, as do all such vessels, to house a plant but which can also be used as a seat.

Amarmi
Designer: Michele Boldi
Stone Supplier: Barsi Marmi
Stone: Arabescato Corchia
Description: The archetype of the world’s most famous balcony reconsidered — interpreted only a few hundred meters from the original. A new perspective in a unique setting for love messages from all over the world. A modern view of a timeless feeling highlighted through the use of color. A new point of view in a unique square.

Eco Anello Eco
Designer: Craig Copeland
Stone Supplier: Travertini Paradiso Srl
Stone: Silver travertine
Description: “Eco Anello Eco” is the third generation of a series of stone sculptures that began with “Anello Ritorto” in 2006. The series explores apertures, figurative spaces and their implicit natural energy. The work is guided by gesture and movement: living forms and spirits are suggested in profiles like twists in the plot.

Mr Statuario & Miss Calacatta
Designer: SA+A Arch. Marco Andreoni
Stone Supplier: Bruno Lucchetti Marmi & Graniti Srl
Material: Aluminium, marble
Description: Aluminium and marble chairs combining sustainability in terms of the weight of the marble and the lightness of aluminium, developed and assembled with state-of-the-art processing techniques: laser cutting for aluminium and waterjet cutting for marble. 95% recyclable.

Litocorno
Designer: Raffaello Galiotto
Stone Supplier: Antolini Luigi & C.S.p.A.
Stone: Bianco Lasa, “Macchia Vecchia” Covelano
Description: In addition to its formal virtuosity, this work is a compelling challenge in terms of saving material and energy. Thanks to careful design and the technology used, it was possible — starting from a solid workpiece 60 cm in height — to develop a grooved, sinuous, twisted and hollow cone 6 m high comprising 100 superimposed monolithic rings.
Celebrating its fifth edition, Marmo+Mac & the City has become an event held in high regard by show-goers and the general public alike. It has helped consolidate Veronafiere’s involvement in the cultural life of the city.
As in past years, the squares and architectural settings of Verona, Italy, became the stage for an entire month, beginning on September 28, to stone works and installations. The artistic displays are the result of the excellence of natural stone sector companies who supply stone materials processed using futuristic technologies interacting with stones worked many centuries ago with rare skill by artisans and stonemasons. The intention is to demonstrate that such ancient materials are still very much up-to-date, appreciated and used even today by architects, landscapers and designers.
The exhibition unwound around the streets and squares of the historic center of Verona and each work was accompanied by a brief description to help visitors gain a better understanding of the materials, companies and designers involved in the project.
The event, organized this year by architect Laura De Stefano, is made possible thanks to collaboration between Veronafiere, Verona City Council and the Order of Architects P.P.C of the Province of Verona.
Companies taking part included: Antolini, Barsi Marmi, Consorzio Tutela Pietra della Lessinia, Associazione Nazionale Le Donne del Marmo, Franchi Umberto Marmi, Bruno Lucchetti Marmi e Graniti, Stone Group International and Travertini Paradiso.
