To kick off StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas, the Marble Institute of America (MIA) held a Women in Stone (WIS) event, sponsored by Las Vegas Rock, on Tuesday, January 20, 2015. The social gathering, which provided women in the stone industry a chance to network and share ideas, took place at Las Vegas Rock’s facilities in Jean, NV. In addition to receiving an introduction on the company’s stone products, the reception also included a wine tasting. Attendees learned some reasons why both wine and stone are unique.

Overall, there was an energy and positive vibe felt at the event. The following are some comments from those in attendance:

“The women who are here tonight represent the core of the industry,” said Tiffany  Aryeh of Amalfi Stone & Masonry Co. in Los Angeles, CA. “Everyone chose to be there. The WIS committee can’t wait to plan future events.”

“It’s very rare to find other women in the stone industry,” said Ashley Ditomaso of Stone Masters Inc. in Kennet Square, PA. “To have women from different walks of life meet is empowering. It’s interesting to get the design perspective, not just the technical element.”

“It was great to talk to women from all over the country who are doing the same thing and compare similarities and differences in all markets,”said Kimberly Homs of Great In Counters in Smithfield, RI.

“The potential is unlimited,” said Joe Dellacroce of Connecticut Stone in Milford, CT.
