MIA elects new directors for 2014

December 18, 2013
CLEVELAND, OH -- The Marble Institute of America (MIA) has announced the results of its Board of Directors voting which concluded November 22, 2013. David Carnevale of Carnevale & Lohr, Inc. (Bell Gardens, CA), Brenda Edwards of TexaStone Quarries (Garden City, TX), and Robert Zavagno, Jr. of Cleveland Marble Mosaic Co. (Cleveland, OH) have been elected by the MIA membership to serve five-year terms. Carnevale will represent zone seven, which covers Alaska, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon and Washington. Edwards will represent zone five, which covers Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas. Zavagno will be filling an at-large position on the board. A record number of voters participated in this open-member election, which included a record 10 candidates.

Carnevale is part of the third generation of the Carnevale family to be involved in the stone industry in the U.S. He began working with stone in 1979. He has worked as a shopman, draftsman, installer, estimator, project manager and consultant. Currently President at Carnevale & Lohr, Inc. in Los Angeles, Carnevale has been an ardent supporter of the MIA since he attended his first MIA convention in 1987. Carnevale replaces Michael Twiss of Columbia Stone.

Edwards has been Owner/General Manager of TexaStone Quarries for 21 years. She served on the Building Stone Institute (BSI) board of directors for 12 years, the Natural Stone Council (NSC) board of directors for eight years and was selected to fulfill a vacated seat on the MIA board two years ago. Edwards replaces Rodney Harvey of Curtain Wall Design & Consulting.

Zavagno is President of the Cleveland Marble Mosaic Co. He has been with his firm for 27 years. Zavagno’s stone industry involvement has included sponsoring the MIA Pinnacle Awards luncheon, the BSI Board, as well as serving the Construction Employers Association. Zavagno serves as the Chairman of the Bricklayers’ Pension Fund, as well as the Health & Welfare Fund, and the Apprenticeship Fund, along with serving as a judge for Bricklayer Apprentice competitions.

Each of the three new Board of Directors' terms will commence during the MIA Annual Business Meeting held during StonExpo/Marmomacc Americas in Las Vegas, NV.
