Hindustan Granites opens new warehouse facility in Brooklyn

October 29, 2010

BROOKLYN, NY -- Hindustan Granites, Inc. has opened a new facility in Brooklyn, NY. The facility is located three minutes from the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, a two-minute walk from the L train and five minutes from the Long Island Expressway, with easy parking.

The total area of the facility is close to 60,000 square feet, with high ceilings. The warehouse is divided into three sections, separated by walls and connected through doors and an open yard. There is one storage hall for granite slabs, another for marble, onyx and limestone. The third area is for tiles, and the open area has a staging area and additional storage for granite.

"We installed 32 large skylights in order to have good natural lighting for better viewing of slabs as well as for energy savings, as there is plenty of natural light the whole day," explained Babu Reddy and Prakash Doddahosahalli of Hindustan Granites. "In addition, there are energy-saving lights. When turned on after dark, the lighting is as good as daylight. All of the walls and ceilings are painted white for maximum reflection of light. Customers coming in any time of the day will be able to see the colors well."

The company also made sure that there is ample space between the aisles for customers to step back and view the entire slab comfortable. Five-ton overhead remote-controlled cranes operate in the slab areas, and they have been engineered for quiet operation.

In addition, the facility features a large office area with meeting rooms and two large conference rooms.

"Going from a 4,000-square-foot warehouse in 2000 to a 60,000-square-foot warehouse in 2010 is a big leap forward," stated Reddy.

To mark the expansion, Hindustan Granites held a Grand Opening that was attended by 300 fabricators, architects and interior designers, and the food was a fusion of Italian and Indian fare.

"After the Grand Opening, there has been a tremendous response and support from our customers, including the architectural community," said Reddy and Doddahosahalli. "This large facility has allowed us to increase our product line. When other distributors are cutting back on products, we have increased the product line. We have not cut back on service."
