Surrounded by 200 members of the architectural and design com-munity, the annual presentation of the BSI Tucker Awards honored stone projects based on excellence.

The Building Stone Institute (BSI) awarded eight projects with a 2002 Tucker Award for excellence in architecture on May 8 at a dinner held at The Park Hotel in Charlotte, NC. Awards are presented to those architectural firms whose excellence in concept and design has contributed significantly to arch-itecture throughout the world.

Entries were judged by an independent panel of architects without the participation of any member in the industry, according to BSI. Excellence in concept, design, construction and use of natural stone were criterion for projects.

Presenting the awards was Marvin Malecha, FAIA, Dean, School of Architecture, North Carolina State University, who served as chairman of the architectural awards jury. In addition to Dean Malecha, the 2002 jury included Leslie N. Boney, Jr., FAIA, Boney Architects, Wilmington, NC, and Thomas Balsley, FASLA, Thomas Balsley Associates, New York, NY.
