Creating Architectural Stonework: Supplying landmarks around the globe

By Michael Reis
September 1, 2006
Testi Group's cut-to-size plant in the Valpolicella region of Italy produces custom stoneworking for architectural projects around the world.

An elaborate mock-up of radius-cut marble stands outside the entrance to Testi Group's main offices in the Valpolicella region of Italy as testament to the company's abilities as a producer of cut-to-size stonework. The company has supplied architectural pieces for prestigious projects around the world, including the Banco Popolare project in Verona.

In addition to modern stoneworking machinery, Testi Group relies on the skill and experience of its workers.
The company's cut-to-size facility has a broad range of machinery, including bridge saws, edge polishers, CNC stoneworking centers and waterjet-cutting equipment.

Of course, in addition to modern stoneworking machinery, Testi Group relies on the skill and experience of its workers. The level of handwork required depends on the nature of the project and the individual pieces being fabricated. “The CNC machinery will only go so far, and some products need to be hand finished,” explained Piereluigi Testi, general manager of the Testi Group.

Over the years, Testi Group has supplied stone for architectural projects throughout the U.S., including prestigious office buildings in Manhattan as well as retail spaces such as the Galleria Mall in Cleveland, OH, and Boca Park in Las Vegas, NV. In addition to the U.S., the group's architectural work can also be found throughout the world, including such projects as the Royal Garden Hotel in Tokyo, Japan; the Marriott Hotel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; the Sheraton Park Hotel in London, England; and the “Glory to Ukraine” Independence Monument in Kiev, which was fabricated from Bethel White granite from Rock of Ages of Barre, VT.
