A total of 130 registered attendees and 18 vendors gathered at Slabworks of Montana’s facility in Bozeman, MT, on August 9 and 10, 2018 to take part in one of several workshops held by the Stone Fabricators Alliance (SFA) throughout the U.S. each year.
Fabricators head to Italy with the SFA to learn not only more about the products they buy and the machines they invest in, but also the culture of Italian workers
For the past eight years, the Stone Fabricator’s Alliance (SFA) takes a group of fabricators from North America, many of which have never traveled once outside the country, and brings them to Italy to learn about machinery, tooling and different types of stone.
Slabworks of Montana will host a two-day learning workshop for fabricators at its facility in Bozeman, MT. According to Dave Scott, owner of Slabworks of Montana and Stone World’s 2017 Fabricator of the Year, they will be having fabricator learning modules discussing different topics presented by SFA members.
Featuring more than 1,100 exhibitors and offering new show attractions, this year’s international stone and tile exhibition offered something to meet everyone’s interests.
The international stone and tile show filled the expansive exhibition hall offering numerous displays of new stone and tile collections, innovations in product lines for stone and tile care, maintenance and installation, as well as fabrication machinery and tooling and accessories for stone fabrication.
The Stone Fabricator’s Alliance (SFA) holds several workshops annually, hosted by member companies. These workshops are free of charge to SFA members in good standing, and they are designed to provide a wealth of knowledge and learning opportunity for the industry.

Each year the Stone Fabricator’s Alliance (SFA), hosted by Tenax, plans a trip to Italy to give a small group of fabricators a new perspective on stone products, the business and what it means to be in the industry.
This month marks my 21st anniversary with Stone World- how fast the time goes by! And while many aspects of the industry, and even systems for publishing a magazine have changed, it is comforting that many things have also stayed the same.
