2018 AIA Institute Honor Awards Recognize Excellence

Washington, D.C. -- The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has selected the 2018 recipients of the Institute Honor Awards, the profession’s highest recognition of works that exemplify excellence in architecture, interior architecture, and urban design. Selected from roughly 500 submissions, 17 recipients located throughout the world will be honored at the AIA Conference on Architecture 2018, June 21-23 in New York City.

Recipients of the AIA Honor Award for Architecture include: Audain Art Museum (Whistler, British Columbia, Canada) by Patkau Architects; The Broad (Los Angeles, Calif.) by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Associate Firm; Chicago Riverwalk (Chicago, Ill.) by Ross Barney Architects; Gohar Khatoon Girls' School (Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan) by Robert Hull and the University of Washington, Department of Architecture; Manhattan Districts 1/2/5 & Spring Street Salt Shed (New York City, N.Y.) by Dattner Architects in association with WXY architecture + urban design; Mercer Island Fire Station 92 (Mercer Island, Washington) by Miller Hull Partnership; New United States Courthouse (Los Angeles, Calif.) by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill; Vol Walker Hall & the Steven L. Anderson Design Center (Fayetteville, Ark.) by Marlon Blackwell Architects; and the Washington Fruit and Produce Headquarters (Yakima, Wash.) by Graham Baba Architects.

Winners of the 2018 Institute Honor Awards for Interior Architecture include: Chicago Public Library, Chinatown Branch (Chicago, Ill.) by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill; Photographer's Loft (New York City, N.Y.) by Desai Chia Architecture; Reeds Spring Middle School (Reeds Spring, Mo.) by Dake Wells Architecture; Sound Transit University of Washington Station (Seattle, Wash.) by LMN Architects; and Square, Inc. Headquarters (San Francisco, Calif.) by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson.

The 2018 Institute Honor Awards for Regional and Urban Design include: Chicago Riverwalk (Chicago, Ill.) by Ross Barney Architects; Salty Urbanism: Sea Level Rise Adaptation Strategies for Urban Areas (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) by Brooks + Scarpa, Florida Atlantic University, and University of Southern California; and the Urban Watershed Framework Plan: A Reconciliation Landscape for Conway, Arkansas by University of Arkansas Community Design Center.
