American Marazzi Tile

Project: Maplewood Mall

Location: St. Paul, MN

Design Team: RSP Architects, Minneapolis, MN

General Contractor: Pepper Construction, Indianapolis, IN

Contractor: Grazzini Brothers & Co., Eagan, MN

Marazzi Distributor: Tile x Design, Plymouth, MN

Over 100,000 square feet of Marazzi Architectural’s SistemN porcelain stoneware in three colors: Sabbia Matte, Fango Matte, Nero Polished, and two finishes: matte and polished, was specified by RSP Architects to dramatically update the Maplewood Mall — an enclosed super-shopping center in the Twin Cities area. The tiles measured 12 x 24 inches.

Aside from the bold, large-format size, the tile is both abrasion- and frost-resistant, meets ADA guidelines for slip resistance and contains 45% pre- consumer recycled content. The absence of VOCs and allergen- and mold-inhibiting features were particularly appealing relative to indoor air quality from the mall’s customer relations viewpoint.

Exceptional teamwork among all parties involved with the renovation resulted in effectively meeting the pre-holiday shopping kick-off deadline.

Caesarstone

Project: Euro Cucina

Location: Milan, Italy

At Euro Cucina, Caesarstone showcased a remarkable and fully functional kitchen in “White Crocodile,” which is gleaming white with an embossed, textured surface — part of the company’s Motivo line. At the heart of the kitchen was a massive 30-foot-long island equipped with touch-screen functionality which allowed for the three countertop surfaces and 12 massive drawers to slide open — revealing more space and other functional aspects of the kitchen. Behind the island was the custom cabinetry made up of nine sliding doors all covered in White Crocodile.

The kitchen accomplished so much more than simply functional yet elegant design. The technology built into the kitchen was truly innovative. With the press of a button you could reveal the sink and stove, as well as create a bar on the other side. All the drawers and cabinets were covered with White Crocodile.

Rookwood Pottery Co.

Project: High-rise Condominium/Kitchen Remodel

Location: Hyde Park, OH

“Tanga Peel” from Rookwood Pottery Co. was selected for the backsplash of a kitchen remodel in a high-rise condominium located in Hyde Park, OH. The complete kitchen remodel involved opening up the kitchen so that the backsplash is visual from the dining and living areas. The client has an extensive contemporary collection of paintings and artwork and wanted to incorporate the colors from the artwork into the kitchen backsplash. The vivid glazes chosen in the backsplash were inspired by the artwork that lives throughout the dining room and living room.
