From Thor-Anders Lundh Håkestad, on behalf of Lundhs AS, Larvik, Norway:

“It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of Kjell Hobæk. He passed away peacefully on Friday the 20th of January in a hospital in Larvik, after struggling with cancer for some time. Mr. Hobæk was much appreciated as a co-worker and a dear friend of many here at Lundhs and within the stone industry.

He joined Lundhs in 1996 as the Marketing Director for the newly merged Lundhs Labrador, after several years in Fritzøe Blue Pearl AS, a position he held until in 2001 when he started stepping down towards retirement. After this he still followed some customers and executed projects on behalf of Lundhs, such as the biennial Sculpture Symposium, up until last summer.

Lundhs is very grateful for the contributions and all the happy memories that Mr. Hobæk left behind.”

(Editor’s Note: On my very first day at Stone World in March of 1993, my first assignment was to work with Kjell Hobæk on an article about Norway’s granite industry, and he contributed to our magazine’s editorial over the course of nearly two decades. He will be dearly missed.)
