The Vermont International Business Council (VIBC), a standing committee of the Vermont Chamber of Commerce, honored the Rock of Ages Corp.'s quarrying division in Barre, VT, as the 2001 Exporter of the Year.

VIBC presents this annual award to a company that has contributed significantly to Vermont's international trade stature. Criteria for the award include: international trader marketing strategies; overcoming legal, cultural and linguistic barriers; using local, state or federal resources to expand exports; importance of exporting to the company's bottom line; assistance/encouragement to other small businesses entering export markets; and the use of Vermont-produced components and/or services in production of export products.

Bonnie Tangalos, Chair of the Vermont International Business Council, stated, "Rock of Ages is an example of exporting and entrepreneurial expertise. This company rose to the challenge and developed a new market niche as well as a market of international working relationships."

The award was accepted by Jon Gregory, president of Rock of Ages quarry division, as part of the International Trade Luncheon at the 2002 Vermont Business Exposition in Burlington, VT, on May 23. "Our goal has been to increase the export business to offset declining sales in our domestic market. With the help and hard work of our employees, we have been able to accomplish this and look forward to continued growth in the export market," stated Gregory.
