When Artistic Tile expanded its business to include a showroom on the ground floor of Luxe Home at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago, IL, New York-based architect Stephen A. Wanta was hired to create more than 30 separate vignettes that occupy the 3,200-square-foot display area. 

When the architectural team at Pentagram in New York, NY, designed a private residence in Montauk, NY, a personal trip taken years ago by firm partner, James Biber, FAIA (currently of Biber Architects in New York, NY), was a key part of its inspiration.

Design of dimensional stone veneer is a straightforward process when the stone sizes are similar, utilize the same material and are connected to an appropriately framed structural backup. However, if stone panels of different sizes and shapes are part of the architectural vision and the existing backup wall limits the location of anchors, the designer must be creative and meticulous in the cladding design.

Bass Studio Architects, based in Columbus, OH, selected the Black Gold Blend from the Tivoli series by Hakatai for the new Thaijindesu Thai and Sushi Bar, a contemporary fusion-style restaurant in beachside Newport News, VA. The iridescent glass mosaic tile, which is produced with recycled content, was employed for the face of an enclosed half-circle bar and two hosting stations in the lounge as well as an island-style service station in the main dining room.
