New Ravenna Introduces Delft Mosaics

new ravenna
March 15, 2019

EXMORE, VA -- New Ravenna, one of America’s premier designer and manufacturer of mosaics for both residential and commercial installations, is pleased to introduce 12 new Delft mosaic designs to their Sea Glass collection. Inspired by early 17th century Dutch porcelain, the mosaics are handcrafted using four different colors of blue and white glass. The background is Opal Sea Glass, and the distinctive iconography is a combination of three colors of jewel glass: Lapis Lazuli, Iolite and Covelite. Each piece of glass is cut and shaped by hand and arranged to create a mosaic interpretation of the decorative motifs found in traditional Dutch delftware as well as the marine life native to the Eastern Shore of Virginia, where New Ravenna is located. Shown as 8- x 8-inch designs, the square mosaics can be assembled in any combination and sized to suit any vertical area for residential or commercial projects. Additionally, New Ravenna can customize the designs to reflect family themes, from cherished pets to garden flora. The Delft mosaics can be installed on walls, indoors or out.

"We have reimagined Dutch Delft tiles in a way that pays homage to the original art form while making them fresh and modern,” said creative director Cean Irminger. “For each piece, we hand selected glass, utilizing the sections of swirled, blended hues to mimic the watercolor-like paintings of original delftware tiles. The randomly cut, irregular white matte background mimics the crazing of an antique ceramic glaze and pops the decorative features in three shades of blue. Much like the iconic tiles created over 400 years ago, the only limit to subject matter is imagination -- we can transform any idea into a decorative Delft figure. Each of our Delft mosaics is created by the hand of a master artisan, and each is completely unique. We often find ourselves explaining the difference between the art forms of tile and mosaic, so it is wonderful to be able to embrace a familiar, historical tile trend and give it a mosaic interpretation."

The Delft mosaics and all other New Ravenna products are available at New Ravenna showrooms throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, Russia and Dubai.
