Restoration show aligns with preservation group

The producers of the Restoration & Renovation exhibitions and conferences have announced plans and marketing alliances for their Fall 2001 event, scheduled to take place at the historic Fairmont Hotel in New Orleans, LA, from September 6 to 8. According to Restore Media, LLC, the conference program will kick off on September 6, with exhibits running on September 7 and 8.

The show will be co-located with the Great Neighborhood Sellabration, sponsored by one of the region's most important preservation organizations, the Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans (PRC). Consistent with the objectives of the PRC, whose Sellabration event features historic properties for sale within the city's 15 historic districts, R&R/New Orleans will have as its theme: "Neighborhoods and Downtowns: Revitalization Through Preservation." The highly acclaimed R&R conference program will focus on the economic benefits of cultural tourism that can be derived from preserving historic neighborhoods and commercial centers.

"While most people are familiar with the famous French Quarter, New Orleans offers a wide assortment of historic neighborhoods that provide a veritable 'real life' laboratory for the study of preservation practices. This will be a real draw and benefit for our R&R showgoers," says Restore Media's Managing Director, Ellen Glew. "A visit to the Warehouse District, for example, is the best way for preservation professionals to see the results of adaptive re-use. Here, old cotton warehouses have been converted into lofts, hotels, shops, galleries, restaurants and even an operating glassblowing factory."

PRC, which is also a sponsor of R&R/New Orleans, will host the Sellabration event on Saturday, September 8 at its new headquarters in the Warehouse District, not far from the R&R venue. This marketplace of historic properties for sale is another opportunity for R&R attendees to see preservation in action. Shuttle service and attractive cross-registration options between R&R and Sellabration will encourage and facilitate attendee traffic between the two events. Pre-show and after-hour tours to various historic districts and attractions will further enhance the New Orleans trade show experience for attendees and exhibitors alike.

Launched in 1993, Restoration & Renovation is the only trade show dedicated to the preservation and rehabilitation of building exteriors, interiors, landscapes and streetscapes as well as traditionally styled new construction. Its exhibitors and conferences feature a broad range of stone and masonry materials as well as products for stone restoration and maintenance.
