Celebrating 10 years

FREDERICK, MD - Avanti Marble & Granite Inc., a supplier of quality stone products in the Mid-Atlantic region, recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary. With offices in Frederick, MD, and Durham, NC, the company has grown to a staff of 26 employees since Bill Werder, president and CEO, established it in 1997.

Two years ago, Avanti moved its Maryland operation into a new 26,000-square-foot facility on six and a half acres. Designed with the architect, designer and individual in mind, the facility’s warehouse features a blend of artificial and natural light to provide an accurate representation of the stone during the selection process. It recently finished construction on its second floor office space, which features a state-of-the-art conference room and additional offices to accommodate their growing staff. The North Carolina location opened its doors in October 2004, and is directed by Bill Werder’s brother Jack Werder, co-owner and managing partner.

Understanding the growing demand for Brazilian granite in the marketplace, Avanti also opened an office in Brazil in 2005. “This decision has proven very valuable for us,” said Bill Werder. “We are now able to seek out new and unique materials and inspect the quality to ensure that we meet our clients’ ever-changing needs.”

As Avanti looks ahead, it is exploring ways to enhance its position in the market throughout the next decade. One thing that won’t change, however, is Werder’s belief in developing a team environment where staff is empowered to make decisions and grow. He said that the company’s success has been driven by the loyal employees who have remained with it throughout the years.
