April 29, 2026

U.S. stone exports totaled $9.9 million in January 2026, a 23% decline from $12.9 million in January 2025. Canada remained the dominant destination, receiving $6.5 million in stone products, or roughly two-thirds of all U.S. exports. The top export category was Quartz and Other Materials at $3.7 million, followed by marble and travertine at $1.6 million and granite at $802,000. Nearly every major category declined year-over-year, with granite falling 37.7% and the Quartz and Other Materials category dropping 24.2%. Slate was a rare bright spot, climbing 45.6% from a year ago.

The export data underscores the scale of the U.S. trade imbalance in stone. The country imported $304.1 million in countertop materials during the same month, creating a 31:1 import-to-export ratio and a $294 million trade deficit in stone products for January alone. U.S. exports are heavily regional, with Canada, the Bahamas, and Caribbean island nations accounting for the majority of outbound shipments. Italy, the largest source of U.S. stone imports, also appeared as the top destination for U.S. marble exports at $558,000, likely reflecting re-export of specialty material for Italian reprocessing
