March 31, 2026

U.S. countertop material imports totaled $304.1 million in January 2026, a 14.5% decline from $355.8 million in January 2025. Natural stone accounted for $201.8 million of the total, while engineered quartz made up the remaining $102.2 million. Engineered quartz saw the steeper decline at 24.6% year-over-year, while natural stone fell 8.4%. The shift pushed natural stone’s market share from 62% to 66%, reversing a years-long trend of manufactured materials gaining ground.

Brazil led all source countries at $70.2 million, up 29.7% from a year ago, driven almost entirely by a quartzite boom that saw shipments nearly double to $57 million. India fell from the top spot to third at $35 million, a 49.1% decline largely attributed to a collapse in engineered quartz exports. China dropped 51.7% to $17.1 million. Italy held relatively steady at $45.2 million, down 7.6%, with marble remaining its dominant export. Quartzite was the only major category to grow, rising 72.7%, while granite saw the sharpest decline at 49.7%.
