The Pardes Shalom Memorial Garden in Ontario, Canada, features 14- and 20-foot black granite monoliths from Polycor Granite Bussiere Architectural Stone.


ONTARIO, CANADA - On October 16, 2005, leaders in the Jewish community, along with local public officials, attended the Pardes Shalom Memorial Garden opening. The garden features 14- and 20-foot black granite monoliths - from Polycor Granite Bussiere Architectural Stone of Quebec, Canada - which form the sculptural focus of the site's piazza.

Polycor's Cambrian Black granite was selected because it was the suitable choice to what the developers were looking for, and because of its emphasis of the Canadian content of the project. According to Polycor, the granite centerpiece took several months of preparation, including the carving and installation of the material.

“I searched through South Africa, India, China and Pakistan; everyone could do it in black granite,” said Stanley Federman, Toronto Hebrew Memorial Park [THMP] Memorial Garden committee member. “No one could do it in one piece. My tired fingers stopped searching when I talked to Vincent Roy at Polycor Granite Bussiere. Polycor had the vision, commitment and workmanship to make it happen.”

Polycor supplied a total of 10 memorial walls, which measure 5 x 5 feet and feature 8-inch-thick polished granite. Additionally, the company supplied two monuments - one of which measures 20 feet x 3 feet, 3 inches with 2-foot, 2-inch-thick slabs, and one monument that measures 14 feet x 3 feet, 2 inches, utilizing 2-inch-thick pieces. Both monuments are polished with a portion split-faced with special cutouts.
