Sao Paulo fair to include stone and ceramics

Revestir, the international trade fair for surface coatings, has been established as the first trade fair for the Latin American coverings sector, bringing together under one roof a variety of companies working with ceramics, granite, marble and other ornamental stones.

Organized by Anfacer, the National Association of Ceramics Manufacturers (Associa¿ Nacional dos Fabricantes de Cer¿ica), together with Abiemg, the Brazilian Association of Marble and Granite Exporters (Associa¿ Brasileira das Ind¿strias Exportadoras de M¿ores e Granitos), the Revestir trade fair will be held at the Transam¿ca ExpoCenter in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil, from April 9 to 13. There will be more than 100 exhibitors at the event, including ceramics manufacturers as well as companies in the marble and granite trade.

Revestir is aimed at professionals in the market, such as international buyers, architects, interior designers, engineers, developers and specialists in the stone industry. Although this is the first edition of Revestir, organizers are expecting to attract 20,000 visitors, generating a turnover of $26 million during the event's five-day duration. It is estimated that the fair will also attract roughly 2,000 visitors from overseas, mainly from the Americas, Africa and Oceania.

With 26,000 square meters set aside for Revestir, the Transam¿ca ExpoCenter offers a complete infrastructure for both visitors and exhibitors. The venue has 2,000 parking spaces, central air-conditioning, an extensive food court and broadband Internet access via fiber optics.

Organizers of Revestir point out that the timing of the event is particularly strong for the international stone industry. They report that Brazil is the world's third largest producer of marble and has the fourth largest reserve of granite, producing around 500 commercial varieties. Total Brazilian production comes to 3.9 million tons a year, and the sector generates a turnover of approximately $2.1 billion a year.

Export sales of marble and granite added up to more than $330 million in 2002, representing an increase of 18% over the previous year, when 16% of output was destined for export.

The official travel agency for the trade fair is Augustus Turismo, which is offering special packages with air-tickets and accommodations. The agency's site is www.augustus.com.br and the e-mail is augustus@augustus.com.br. Exhibitors and visitors can find more information about Revestir on the Internet at www.exporevestir.com.br.
