New Products: November 2009

November 1, 2009
Mapei’s new Mapeguard 2 solves a number of installation problems encountered with traditional crack isolation and sound-reduction sheet membranes, the manufacturer reports.

Mapei’s new Mapeguard 2 solves a number of installation problems encountered with traditional crack isolation and sound-reduction sheet membranes, the manufacturer reports. Mapeguard 2’s lighter weight makes the membrane easier to work with, and it also installs faster because it is more rigid and has a split-back release liner. This membrane has added value because it can be used under wood as well as stone and tile. “We listened to our customers, and we were able to draw on the depth of our technological resources to produce a product that meets their needs,” said Mapei Technical Services Manager Mike Micalizzi. “When Mapeguard 2 is applied to the surface, it fits right into place and doesn’t cling to its liner like most sheet membranes do today. It also retains its shape when the liner is removed, unlike those products that stretch when the liner is peeled back or the membrane needs to be moved for best placement.”

Mapei’s Mapeguard 2

Mapei Americas called upon the expertise of recently acquired sister company Polyglass to help develop a 40-mil crack-isolation membrane that has the sound-reduction qualities of a 90-mil sheet. Additionally, the post-industrial recycled material used in the production of Mapeguard 2 helps builders contribute to points required for LEED certification. It also has low VOC content. “We have the next generation of sheet membranes ready for our market today,” said Jeff Leone, Director of Strategic Marketing for Mapei. “This is the crack-isolation membrane every installer will want to use.”

Braxton-Bragg’s Hercules® Universal Sink Harness

The new Hercules Universal Sink Harness is produced exclusively for Braxton-Bragg, and the manufacturer reports it can reduce undermount sink installation to minutes. Since there is no need for temporary bracing to hold caulk or adhesive while it dries, it also means there is no costly return visit, saving the installer time and money. Instead of fastening directly to expensive stone countertops, the Universal Sink Harness Kit fastens to the cabinet itself, so the weight is supported by the cabinet instead of by the weakest part of the countertop: the sink cutout. This system will work with any undermount sink shape - single or double bowl, cast iron, steel or ceramic - so there is no need to stock more than one type of installation product. The installer can even use the Universal Sink Harness to repair other failed sink installations.

“This is going to be one of the hot new products of 2010,” said Rich Hassert, CEO of Braxton-Bragg LLC. “It will revolutionize the industry and probably make all other methods obsolete. We are selling it for $5, and the competitive products are about $30. I have seen a sink installation done with this product and it only took five minutes.”

Braxton-Bragg is offering to send customers one complete kit for free. Contact a Braxton-Bragg sales representative for more information, and check out the Universal Sink Harness demo at the company’s new Web site.
