MIA AND OSHA TO OFFER SAFETY SEMINAR IN NEW JERSEY . . .

The Marble Institute of America (MIA) and the Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, OSHA Area Office will present a day-long stone shop safety seminar in northern New Jersey on July 19, 2007.
The event will be hosted by Schechner Lifson Corp of Summit, NJ, and Alpha Professional Tools in Alpha’s new, on-site fabrication shop research laboratory in Oakland, NJ. Participants will witness one of the seminar’s highlights: a walk-through inspection by an OSHA inspector.
“Safety is such a critical issue in our industry,” said Gary Distelhorst, Executive Vice President of the MIA. “This seminar is designed to help enhance their safety programs and their safety awareness. Attendees will benefit from the combined knowledge and expertise resulting from the ongoing alliance between MIA and OSHA. Plus, they’ll receive up-to-date information from OSHA and industry experts.”
Topics of interests to fabricators and business owners include:
• Silica exposure in the stone industry
• Slab handling and other safety hazards
• Free consultation services for employers
• A stone shop inspection case study
• Developing a safety and health program
• How to prepare for an OSHA inspection
“We debuted this seminar in the Cleveland market in December 2006,” said Distelhorst, “The topic was important enough to draw attendees from eight states.”
The price for attending the seminar is $45 per person. Participants receive the MIA safety handbook, Safety in the Stone Business, three safety videos and safety-related handouts from both OSHA and the MIA (a $225 value). Please note: attendee names and addresses will not be provided to OSHA. For more information, contact MIA at (440) 250-9222; E-mail MIAinfo@marble-institute.com; Internet: www.marble-institute.com.
