Lifetime achievement honoree
Robert Hund has served the association in a promotional and technical capacity since 1963, when the DCTCA renamed its promotion fund to the Great Lakes Ceramic Tile Council. Hund, an experienced advertising executive, was hired by the DCTCA to publicize the reliable installation practices of the association¿s tile contractor members in order to compete with the introduction of architectural finishing materials advertised "as good as" or "better than" ceramic tile surfaces.
Hund is a member of the national technical committees, which write the standards for ceramic and thin marble tile installation. They include the American National Standards Institute Committee ANSI A108 (Installation of Ceramic Tile by All Methods), the Tile Council of America Installation Handbook Committee, American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), Committee C18 for Dimension Stone and the Methods and Materials Standards Association.
As president of an advertising/public relations/consultant firm, Robert Hund Inc., based in Farmington, MI, Hund has served as a technical and promotional consultant to numerous hard-surface industry associations, including the Marble Institute of America, Chicago Tile Institute and the Detroit Terrazzo Contractors Association. He has also served clients in the plumbing, automotive and heavy-duty truck aftermarket, architecture and interior design, and classical music broadcasting industries.
A Detroit native, Hund received a bachelor¿s degree in music education from Wayne State University, and he served as program director of the Armed Forces Radio Station in Rome, Italy, where he was decorated with U.S. Army Commendation Ribbon. He lives in Farmington with his wife of 51 years. They have four children.
