Brazilian stone fair moves to Vitoria

VITORIA, BRAZIL -- The International Marble and Granite Fair's 2003 edition will be taking place in Vitoria, Espirito Santo, Brazil from February 19 to 22.

The organizers of the event, Milanez and Milaneze report that Vitoria is a favorable city for foreign trade business investments as due to its efficient transportation logistics and services as well as its strategic geographical location. The city ranks tenth best in Brazil for investments and fourth for quality of life.

Further, organizers state that the State of Espirito Santo also ranks as the greatest producer, processor and exporter in Brazil. Over 100 of Brazil's 500 marble and granite exporting companies are located in the State of Espirito Santo. The state accounts for 44% of exports and has 1,500 firms that are involved in some aspect of the ornamental stone business and related machine and equipment industries. From January to April of 2002, Capixaba (referring to the State of Espirito Santo) ornamental stone sector exports grew 19%.

Of 1,100 quarries in Brazil, 400 are Capixaba -- many of them granite quarries in a variety of colors and textures. And of the 1,500 gang saws installed in Brazil, 900 are located in the State of Espirito Santo. The state therefore has a prominent position in the world's market, and, consequently, constant growth in the sector.

Products that will be featured at the exhibit include blocks, slabs, tiles, stone goods, machinery, abrasives, diamond tools, and tools and accessories for the industry. Other activities that will be available at the show are visits to quarries, saw mills and industries.
