2001 Tucker Awards honor superior architecture

Excellence in architecture was the spirit of the evening on May 16, when the 2001 Tucker Awards were presented at a dinner held at the University Club in Denver, CO. Sponsored by the Building Stone Institute (BSI), the awards program was held in conjunction with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) National Convention.

The entries were judged by an independent panel of architects without the participation of any member of the stone industry, according to the BSI. The projects were considered for their excellence in concept, design, construction and use of natural stone.

Presenting the awards was Peter H. Dominick, FAIA, senior principal and director of design of the Urban Design Group in Denver, who served as chairman of the architectural awards jury. Additional jury members included George Hoover, FAIA, founder and design architect of the Denver-based firm AE7 Hoover Desmond Architects, and chairman of the Department of Architecture at the University of Colorado; and Robert Murase, FASLA, of Robert Murase Associates of Portland, OR.
