U.S. Countertop Materials Exports: April 2026

U.S. exports of natural stone and building stone products totaled $15.2 million in April, down 3.2% from the same month a year earlier, according to data from the U.S. International Trade Commission.
The figure covers stone products measured by free-alongside-ship value and excludes raw quartz and quartzite. The decline was far shallower than in March, when exports fell 22.2% year over year, and April's total marked a gain from the $12.8 million shipped the month before.
Canada remained the dominant destination, taking $10 million in stone products, or 65.6% of all U.S. exports for the month. No other country accounted for more than 9%. The Bahamas ranked second at $1.3 million, followed by Mexico at $794,000 and Italy at $645,000. In all, U.S. producers shipped to 49 countries in April.
Articles of cement, concrete and artificial stone made up the largest export category at $7.6 million, or roughly half the monthly total. Because the export classification system does not separate engineered quartz from concrete and cement, the category likely reflects a mix of all three.
Among natural stone categories, limestone and marble drove the month's gains. Limestone exports nearly doubled to $1.7 million, up 91.8%, while marble and travertine rose 42.9% to $1.4 million. Italy was the top destination for U.S. marble at $442,000, narrowly ahead of Canada at $434,000, a pattern that reflects the re-export of specialty blocks and slabs for finishing abroad.
Those gains were offset by sharp declines elsewhere. Other building stone fell 41.7% to $1.5 million and dolomite dropped 32.1% to $1.3 million. Granite exports slipped 15.2% to $865,000.
The figures underscore the scale of the U.S. trade imbalance in stone. The country imported $302.7 million in countertop materials in April while exporting just $15.2 million in stone products, a ratio of roughly 20 to 1.
