PRECAST CONCRETE COMPANY MOVES INTO STONE FABRICATION

May 5, 2003
Nicholas J. Drew, owner and managing director of Precast Concrete Services Ltd. started the company about 18 years ago, and as the name suggests, it was concrete slab company. Over the years it has evolved into a multipurpose, all phase-fabricating company.

Located on Trinidad Tobago in the West Indies, the company services most of the islands in the Lesser Antilles. "From our humble beginnings, we have grown to a company that virtually works most of the islands, including Guyana, Grenada, Antigua and Barbados," Drew said. "You name it and we have probably been there. Our business mix is about 50% commercial and 50% residential. We do countertops, walls, floors for kitchens, baths and all kinds of custom work. On the commercial side, we have done building facades for banks, municipal buildings and projects like the Accra Beach Hotel on Barbados."

The company employs between 30 and 50 people, depending on the project, and it is equipped with a GSC-2001 Gantry Saw as well as a Daytona XL edging machine from Matrix Stone Products of Upland, CA. "[The gantry saw] is easy to operate and saves us enormous amounts of time; it has been an amazing dependable piece of equipment for us," Drew said. "That's why we decided to purchase our new Daytona XL from Matrix. Like the Gantry Saw, it just goes on and on, and most importantly, it is user friendly. Our crews love it."
