West End office complete

November 1, 2003
LONDON, ENGLAND - Burlington continues its association with prestigious commercial interiors following the specifications of its distinctive silver-grey Brandy Crag stone flooring for the reception area of Mayfair Place. It is a luxurious 160,000-square-foot office development located at 50 Berkley Street in the heart of London's West End. Specified by EPR Architects of London, over nearly 9,000 square feet of 2-cm-thick stone in a honed finish, has been used to clad the imposing 70- x 70-foot reception area. To provide an eye-catching contrast to the main thoroughfare, a perimeter skirting in bands of the same stone, completes the effect.

“Given its durability and aesthetic appeal, natural stone was an obvious choice for the reception area of Mayfair Place,” stated a spokesman from ERP Architects. “It is the use of high-quality and well-tested materials such as Burlington stone that contribute to the building's interior.”

An extensive reconstruction of the 1920's former Thomas Cook Head-quarters by the architect Arnold Mitchell, the multi-occupied, eight-story building contains exceptionally large, open-plan floor plates that are unusual for the West End, and features scenic glass elevators with retail and restaurant accommodations located at ground and lower ground levels. An entirely new eighth floor was also added to the building's profile to provide additional space.
