Stonework Symposium 2003 Is Set For Santa Fe, New Mexico

The third edition of the Stone Foundation Society's "Stonework Symposium" is set for April 4 to 7 in Santa Fe, NM. This event will attract stonework practitioners, advocates and aficionados, with objectives that include interesting, knowledgeable presentations, lively discourse and professional camaraderie. This will also be the occasion of the society's first general membership meeting and the first Board of Directors meeting on April 8.

Invited speakers include Keith Blades, masonry conservation specialist, architectural and engineering technical consultant, educator; Craig Campbell, ASLA, landscape architect and author of "Water in Landscape Architecture;" Davendra Contractor, architect, stonemason; Malcolm Holzman, FAIA, architect and author of the book "Stone Work;" Gen Kumigai, Japanese architect and scholar; Tomas Lipps, stonemason. Stone Foundation founder; John Maine, English public art sculptor/stonemason; Richard Sammons, architect, one of a number of "new traditionalist" architects, whose structures utilize traditional materials and techniques including load-bearing stone walls; and Dan Snow, dry stonemason, philosopher and author of "In the Company of Stone.

Themes include Stonework in Architecture, Restoration Masonry, Medieval Stonemasonry, Structural Stonework, Tectonic Stone Art, Dry Stone Walling, Stone in the Landscape, Amerindian Masonry, Traditional Lime Mortar and Stonework of Other Lands.

The stone foundation is an AIA approved provider of continuing education credit (AIA/CES #Z206). Architects and landscape architects can earn up to 18 LU credits, depending on the number of hours they are present.
