The exterior of the home features Juperana Gold and Grey ThinStoneTM veneer from Connecticut Stone Supplies of Milford, CT. According to Dellacroce, who served as the designer for the project, the stone was used in a “Square Cut” pattern, and the pieces range in thickness from ¾ inch to 1 ¼ inch. “The material was less than 15 pounds per square foot, so a footing was not required,” she said. In addition to flat pieces, corner pieces were supplied for the 90-degree angles on the chimney as well as corners on the front veneer.
The classic look of the stone veneer serves as an ideal backdrop to the other traditional elements of the exterior. This includes carved stone at the main entrance, Bluestone paving and steps and classically detailed lighting fixtures and windows.
The use of Bluestone - quarried in Pennsylvania and supplied by Connecticut Stone Supplies - continues at the back patio. Here, Blue-Grey Select Bluestone was installed in a random rectangular pattern.
Natural stone can also be found throughout the interior of the home, and all of the material was supplied by Connecticut Stone Supplies. Dellacroce explained that the same Juperana Gold and Grey ThinStone was also used for a fireplace in the family room, maintaining a sense of continuity from the exterior to the interior.
In the kitchen, a broad range of stone materials was used to create a traditional, yet upscale space. The center island countertop is Rainforest Green, while the perimeter counters are Halila honed limestone.
Meanwhile, the floor is a Tuscan travertine called Nuvolato Gold. The various-sized floor tiles feature an Old World look, with wide grout joints contributing to the overall design theme. Visual interest is also generated by the backsplash, which combines mosaic-sized pieces of Halila limestone with glass mosaics from Sonoma Tilemakers.
For the bathrooms in the home, stone and tile was used to create a feeling of elegance, while also giving each one its own unique feel. In the master bath, Dellacroce specified Ocean Blue crosscut travertine for the floor, and the walls feature Walker Zanger Roku Cashmere glass tiles. The tub deck is 1 ½-inch-thick Lens limestone, which features a honed finish.
Another bathroom space showcases Cappuccino honed marble in a pattern of 12- x 12- and 6- x 12-inch tiles. Meanwhile, the walls include a mosaic border from Walker Zanger, entitled “Opus Anticato,” which has a checkerboard pattern of Light travertine and Giallo pieces.
Yet another bathroom utilizes Bateige Blue limestone on the floor in a honed finish. The walls of this space are covered in Artistic Tile’s Ice Green Brushetta pieces - with each piece carrying a size of ½ x 4 inches.
Dellacroce explained that in addition to creating a visually stimulating and elegant home, the Stillman Development Co. also built a very “eco-friendly/green” project. The home features extensive use of solar panels and high-quality engineering to minimize its impact on the environment.
