Residential luxury expressed in stone

A broad range of custom-cut stonework was specified for a private residence in the upscale beach village of Marbella, Spain. All of the material was processed by Cuellar Arquitectura del Marmol of Almeria, Spain.

As one of the most upscale towns along the Costa del Sol in Southern Spain, the city of Marbella features a broad range of exclusive, one-of-a-kind homes. With this in mind, it takes a great deal of creativity for a home to stand out among its neighbors. One example of this can be found in a new residence that was completed with a broad range of custom-carved stonework.
For this particular villa, the architect, Antonio Bermudes, sought to create a “Mediterranean” house, where stone and brick are used in conjunction as an integral part of the design. Natural stone was used for a variety of exterior and interior elements, and all of the material was processed by Cuellar Arquitectura del Marmol of Almeria, Spain.
Stonework used for the exterior of the home includes classic travertine, which is featured for a broad range of elements, including carved balustrades that contribute to the overall Mediterranean feel of the home. Stone was also used for smaller details, such as a carved fountain -- adding to the elegance of the residence.

Inside the home, columns and pilasters were cut from Rosa Portugues marble.

Interior stonework

The inside of the home is also a showcase of upscale stone design. Interior columns and pilasters were cut from Rosa Portugues marble. This material is complemented by elegant metalwork to complete the overall design theme. Rosa Portugues marble was also used for interior stairs and flooring, adding a level of consistency from one space to another within the home.
One focal point for the interior is an ornate fireplace, which was carved from Rosa Portugues marble.
In addition to three-dimensional stone processing, Cuellar Arquitectura del Marmol was also responsible for fabricating intricate slabwork for the residence. A prime example of this can be found in one of the bathroom spaces, which was designed with slabs of green onyx, complemented by inlaid custom-cut geometric stone accents and a Nero Marquina border.
In all, the residence is over 7,500 square feet in size. To complete the project, Cuellar Arquitectura del Marmol fabricated over 30 cubic meters (1,000 cubic feet) of natural stone.
